Time to Remember
YEARS AGO I read the story of Dr. David Fant who gave Dr. Forrest this pointed reminder—“Every time you hear the train whistle blow as the train comes over the trestle near the college, remember that I am praying for the college.”
This story so impressed me that I determined whenever I heard a train whistle blow, wherever I was, I would take that as a cue to praise God for what He was doing at Toccoa Falls. I continue that practice to this day.
Using a “trigger” to remind one of a particular thing is a Biblical concept. God told the Israelites to make tassels on the corners of their garments as a reminder to obey the commands of the Lord. Monuments or pillars were erected and special days and certain offerings were scheduled to remind the people of specific events and deeds. Today we partake of the Lord’s Supper as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for our sins.
In the year 2007, Toccoa Falls College celebrates its centennial. In following the Biblical example of a memorial, this is an appropriate time for us to commemorate God’s faithfulness and offer to Him our sacrifice of praise.
He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate. (Psalm 111:4)
